BAC Street Journal

My short story "When Death Came" was published in the first issue of the BAC Street Journal.

On June 7th, a launch party was held at the Beverly Arts Center. Four other writers and I read our submissions. We had a good crowd and sold several copies of the first issue.

The magazine will be published twice a year by the Beverly Arts Center. Submissions are now being accepted for the second issue. The deadline is October 1st. You can request submission guidelines from bacstreetjournal@yahoo.com.

The first issue is available for $5.00 at the Beverly Arts Center on 111th & Western in Chicago. If you are unable to get to the arts center, you can contact me at grubbmaster@ameritech.net to order a copy.

White Knife Premieres at FCBD

Saturday, May 2nd was Free Comic Book Day. It was also the release date of White Knife.

Rene Castellano, Publisher of Instant Press Comics, and I were guests at Alternate Reality on 111th and Kedzie in Chicago. We had a good time meeting all of the customers and seeing some of our friends and fellow creators.

The day was a great success. We sold 13 copies of White Knife and 10 copies of various issues of Distant. I was very excited to talk to everyone about my book, and I was thrilled with the response.

Not So Long Ago...

Before University Park Library's March Madness Comic-Con, there was Table-Con. Organized by Nino Mesarina and La Morris Richmond, Table-Con was a complete convention at one table. The con took place in January at Third Coast Comics. There were guest artists and phone-in guest speakers. There was even a gaming section. Chesskers anyone?
At Table-Con, I was presented with my first Boba Fett sketch in my Star Wars sketchbook. Thanks Kev!

Star Wars: Return of the Sketchbook

Last Saturday was a busy day.
I started out as a guest at University Park Library's March Madness Comic-Con. I had a good time with all of the other guests, but due to the buckets of rain, attendance was low. I was able to get a couple of sketches for my Star Wars sketchbook.
Snakes on a Mace by Jason Baggett
Darth Vader by Jared Day

That evening, I joined a group of awesome artists for the Ashley Baltazar Benefit/Live Art Show. We did sketches and paintings for donations. The artwork helped raise almost $1900.00. It was a great night and I was glad to be part of it.
Below is one of the sketches that I did of Cranobi from Art Baltazar's Cray-Baby Adventures.

I was also able to get some Star Wars sketches from the great artists in attendance.

Yoda by Art Baltazar

Darth Vader by Sean Dove

Cantina Band by Mike Norton

Yoda by Gregory Titus

Greedo by Patrick Brower

Darth Vader by Nino Mesarina

Star Wars: The Empire Sketches Back

Last weekend, I went to the Windy City Comicon. I saw some old friends and met some new ones. It was a good show. There were creators, pros, retailers and publishers. Watch for it next year.
Of course, I had to get some new Star Wars sketches. These are the first empire/villain ones.

Who Is White Knife?

In the open plains of the Mid-West, an evil shaman named Wolf-With-Fire terrorized the Cheyenne tribes, stealing their children and turning them into demons of his own. A warrior, whose name was derived from his pale skin and the fact that his mother bled to death during childbirth, convinced his tribe to fight back. His name was White Knife.
At the Mountain That Breathes Evil, White Knife and the Cheyenne warriors fought the demons and other creatures that protected the shaman. High within the mountain, they came upon the shaman's lair where he lay dying. With the last of his power, Wolf-With-Fire tried to curse White Knife with everlasting life, so that he would live to see all that he knew and loved die. But White Knife found the strength to strike the shaman down with his own tomahawk. Wolf-With-Fire's power exploded, causing White Knife to fall to this death. This, however, was not the end of White Knife.

Star Wars Sketchbook: The Saga Continues

This past weekend, I was a guest at FallCon in Minnesota. This is always a great show. I can't thank Matt and Becky enough for their hospitality and good company.
Besides reconnecting with other creators and guests, I used this opportunity to get more Star Wars sketches.
